Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said October 31 posed a “very high risk” to public order, citing social media calls for gatherings in city centres under the pretext of Halloween.
About 70,000 police officers and gendarmes will be deployed across France, the same number mobilized during last weekend’s demonstrations.
Armoured vehicles, water cannon and elite police units will also be used as part of the security operation.
The Yellow Vest movement and student unions have called for protests over the rising cost of living and inequality, while authorities have warned of an “extremely firm” response to any disorder.
